You will seat in our comfortable and elegant sedan or van, and from that moment we will take care of you so you just have to enjoy your trip through the history and art of Tivoli (Villa d’Este).
Villa d’Este was commissioned by Ippolito D’este 1509-1572), Cardinal of Ferrara and son of the famous Lucrezia Borgia and Alfonso d’Este. At the Conclave of Julius III (1549-1550) d’Este was elected Governor of Tivoli. He decided to built a new villa.
Ippolito d’Este commissioned a great artchitect, Pirro Ligorio, and numerous artists.
The original entrance to the Villa d’Este was on the old Via Tiburtina, at the foot, of the hill upon which the Villa is built. The current entrance is on the side of the main building, an ex-Benedectine monastery which was first converted in 1256 into a Franciscan convent, and then into the Palace of the Governon of Tivoli.
The most famous part of the Villa is still the garden , with its perfect harmony with the Villa and surroundings. Nature bursts in a grandiose revelation of green tints and trees, and human willguides its exuberant forces. For centuries these veils of water, spurting and iridescently splashing, placid fountains and opaline ponds have charmed visitors.
During this visit you will admire: the courtyard of Villa d’Este, the upper or “old” apartment, the lower or “noble” apartment, the gardes and the famous fountains of the the Villa. A fountain that you can’t absolutely miss is the Fountain of the Organ, so named because it was once connected to a water-driven mechanism that imitated the sounds of an organ.
The fountain consists of a large structure designed by Pirro Ligorio along baroque lines. A fusion of ornamental motifs streches across the facade, including abundant grotesque coats of arms, flowers, sirens, winged victories and sea-shells.
If you want to have a wonderful and tasty lunch in this beautiful town, we can reserve for you one in the most beautiful restaurant of Tivoli: “La Sibilla“.
